John and I grew up in Adelaide, South Australia, and met back in high school.
After finishing year 12, together we packed up our lives and moved to the sunny Gold Coast in Queensland for University.
While I completed a communications degree and started my career as a TV journalist in the Northern Territory at 20 years old, John became a GA pilot flying all over the country before his 21st birthday.

Fast forward a couple of years, and John started flying the B777 as a commercial pilot. This is when our love for travel really took off! Suddenly, flying internationally became more affordable, and I would shuffle my days at work to join John on a 72 hour whirlwind trip to LA, or Abu Dhabi for a long weekend. 

My journalism career spanned over a decade and took me everywhere—from covering natural disasters to Royal visits, and even events like the F1 Grand Prix and the Australian Open. While chasing opportunities and new experiences in our careers, we’ve moved seven times and lived in four different states. 

But around three years ago, I decided to take a career break and left my job at Network Ten. That’s when we bought our very first sail boat — a Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 50DS — and taught ourselves to sail. We spent the COVID lockdowns sailing up the East Coast of Australia, documenting the whole adventure on YouTube and Instagram.

Fast forward to now, and our YouTube channels, Kristina’s Travels and Kristina Explores, have had over 30 million views.

These days, we’re all about finding that work-life balance and living a life full of adventure. And, hopefully, we can inspire a few people along the way to chase their dreams too.
